Disagree with sticker!!!
By O'Dell

Clip to ScrapBook
I totally disagree with the sticker idea!!!! My students would become very put out if I handed them a picture and told them to "color it"!!! Children need to feel ownership to something to put pride and time into the activity.
Giving a child a sticker because they stayed in the lines is unnecessary!!!!! I have found that if I have the children do activites that require coloring then those activities are going to be meaningful to them. We recently focused on the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and instead of having the kids just color a picture to represent the book, I had them color clip art to represent
the food in the book. I told the children that I needed their best coloring because I was going to use the pictures to help us tell the story. The children colored them with great pride and cut them out. Then I laminated the pictures and put magnetic tape on the back to use as story props. They can play with the props knowing that they helped make them. You don't need stickers to get children to do their best work! Just ownership! Who isn't proud of their work when they know it is going to put to use? I beg you not to use the sticker idea!!!!!!!!!
